On my C25 I used a Cruisair 5000 btu carry-on. It cooled the boat well, but I found it to be too large and bulky to actually carry it around on the boat when we would take a trip. I eventually sold it.

Air Conditioning Installation This was the first major mod to JD. After our first Summer (2005) long weekends onboard in Biscayne Bay, the decision to install AC was an easy one. I hope that this album provides enough info for anyone to be able to feel it is within their ability to do a similar install.
The plan was to install the system aft of the head and inboard of the head locker. Install the pump in the bilge aft of the water ballast tank. Install 110v power management in the head on the aft bulkhead and install the cooling outflow on the port side aft of the head locker bulkhead.
The installed unit is available for just $18,900 but comes with a C250 & Trailer
I have a Carry-On 5k BTU and it doesn't cool well down south in 90+ heat. It cools well at night though and may do well up north during the day (mid-80's). The best feature is the directional flow down the hatch which gets the air past the bulkhead to the main cabin.
A window unit is much cheaper, but you pretty much need to put it in the companionway to cool down the whole cabin. I tried aiming one down the front hatch, but all that did was freeze the front berth while everyone in the main cabin stayed hot.
All I know is, if I get another cruising boat, it'll have A/C built in!

FWIW, the bulkhead-less design of the C250 does make air circulation a little better. Also, a couple clip-on fans can push the cooled air around quite nicely.
