I have a sister that lives in Western Australia and has just started her move to Tasmania.

So perhaps she will be able to get a glimpse of the finish of this years Sydney to Hobart Yacht race.

Entries close with 119 for 2014 Rolex Sydney Hobart

I believe it was 94 entries last year.

My lady's youngest son saw the whole Sydney-Hobart up close a couple of years ago, as crew aboard his cousin's Baltic 46 in the race. From that same year, there were pictures of one of the 100' maxis going airborne and then making like a submarine (with just the rig and the crew in the cockpit visible. There might be 119 entries, but there won't be 119 finishers.

I recently saw a video on a new 100-footer that expects to set the record for the race--impressive, I suppose...

I will say that the safety preparations for the race really are impressive.
