Recently purchased a 1984 Catalina 25, hull # 4483. I previousIy have owned a Catalina 22 and a Hunter 25.5 plus an assortment of day sailors. I am in the process of cleaning it up and re-painting all the wood. I may have to replace some of the wood in the cockpit but that will come later. I just purchased a new mainsail (Rolly Tasker) The sail that came with it did not belong to the boat.

I will be sailing the boat on Lake Martin in Alabama.

Dave, my signature does not include my layout. Help me out.

When I enter the main cabin there is a long bench up the starboard side. It extends from the quarter berth to the wall at the head. On the port side is essentially a big bed. The port side can be converted into a table with two benches running perpendicular to the line of the boat. The galley is behind the table/bed on the port side.

What configuration is this?

there are three configurations:
Dinette sounds like yours, the two seats face fore and aft.
L-shaped: the port seating area wraps around a tableon a pedestal. It is ....wait for it..... L-shaped.
Traditional: has two long settees and a table that folds up to the bulkhead.

J Horner, welcome to the association! As a former '84 boat owner, I know that you will enjoy sailing and working on her. And Lake Martin is a super lake. Been there several times. My sister-in-law and her husband have a house there. Are you a member of the Dixie Sailing Club?

Forgive my slow response. I'm a church musician and just finished conducting MESSIAH so I was a bit distracted.

Obviously, given the responses, this is going to be a fun forum! AND, since it is required in the state of Alabama to declare my football allegiance...my wife went to Auburn; I'm an Ole Miss Rebel (Archie Manning vintage).

Why did you move from a Hunter 25.5 to a Catalina 25? You lost a lot of interior volume and cockpit comfort.

Thought it would be something the wife would enjoy but she just wasn't interested. The boat is still here but was not for sale and I wanted to get back into sailing, this time with the understanding that it would be "my thing".

I'z born in Sheffield, up in the corner. "Why?"...some might ask. There was an Army Air Corps base there during WWII--no traces of it that I know of now. My first couple of years also included Panama City.

Mystic? Oh, my. Love that town, and, well, the whole New England coast. We've been to Newport twice. Hope to get back next year.
