I have some sad news, I found out this week that Mark Hammett has passed away.
Mark was an association member and our former association secretary. He was a Capri-25 sailor and former member of the Wayzata Yacht Club (Wayzata, MN) He particpated in the 2011 Nationals Regatta hosted by Fleet-100 (WYC).
I will update this post when more details are available.
Mark Hammett, passionate sailboat racer and former member of Wayzata Yacht Club, has passed away in Arizona. Owner of Capri 25 “Ham-It-Up!”, Mark was competitive in spirit, enthusiastic about welcoming new sailors to the sport, and a champion of encouraging women at the helm, especially his daughter, Corry, who started steering Ham-It-Up! at a young age, and continued throughout her high school years. As a diabetic himself, Mark was especially passionate about supporting the ADA Regatta.
Mark is survived by his wife, Beverly, and his children, Corry, Aaron and Miles. A service will be held later this month.
Russ Johnson, Commodore 2009-2025 (commodore at catalina-capri-25s.org)
