Yeah, all the water is shuffling off to Buffalo. Looks like it's gonna drop about two feet after midnight tonight and that's on top of the already low water levels. Last week I motored from my slip to the haulout slip and I was dragging bottom the whole 200' to it. Nothing like being at 3/4 throttle and moving .001 kts.
Went up to get Pearl ready for haul out and spent a great night - 25 kts gusting to 40, heeling in the slip and banshees screaming from everyone's rigging. It was fun. I took the sails and boom off the first day. I planned to get up early and drop the mast before the wind picked the next day. Woke up at 0700 to no breeze - I did something right. Stepped into the cockpit and discovered an extremely hard frost had coated Pearl and footing was treacherous. By the time the sun melted the frost, the breeze was gusting was gusting to 20. So much for "right". I decided that $3/foot to unstep was the better option. She will be lifted, power washed and set on the trailer the last week of October so I can bring her home.
My Spring lift/launch was $88 including tax. Last year's haul out bill was about $280 for the lift, bottom scrub and dropping the mast. 2011 price for lifting to the trailer or cradle was $3.30/ft, bottom scrub was $2.50/ft, and stepping/unstepping the mast was $3.00/ft. edit: If I had payed my 2012 dockage by December (I forgot), the launch would have been free.
Pumped the holding tank and hauled a week ago Friday. Saved $75 by pumping and winterizing myself, but knocked the little WASTE cap overboard. That's the big laugh on us. CD wants $18 for that! Also saved by having her hauled with the 85lb. outboard still attached. On Saturday I removed it by looping a line around the stern rail so the Admiral could gently lower it as I guided it down. With the SUV parked right next to the cradle, it sure beat the usual tense moments lifting it out at the slip and lugging it up to the parking lot. Saw a C250 for the first time in the yard. The design is very nice.
I dock at Sandusky Harbor Marina but Deep Water pulls it for me. They charge 1.00 a foot to power wash the bottom and 45 to take my mast down. In and out, wash, mast down and winter storage less then 500.00.
Oh, the low lake level. Here is the link for the live feed from the Buffalo Canoe Club webcam. The waterline used to be just below where the walkway inclines. Lots of extra beach this year. (The dock system beyond the boathouse has been removed for the winter).
