Interesting, I thought the C-22 cockpit bench seats were actually longer by several inches than the C-25 benches. Now I'll have to go and re-measure mine.

Ha! One great thing about my marina is that it's about 10 minutes from home and from work, right in the middle. I literally pass it and can see my boat from the highway driving to and from work. There are times when there's no wind, too much wind, we have spent some time at the club and don't need to drive home or if we've decided to sail on another boat that we'll just go out, crack open a cold one and hang out. In the summer the pool is an attraction as well for the kiddo so sometimes we visit for that.

Please fore-give me.

I have the best of both. I love having my C-25 on Long Island Sound, since there are lots of places to go - see my recent entry in the Mainsheet Magazine.

AND, I have a 16 foot daysailer on a trailer - it's fine for CT's lakes - the largest of which is 5400 acres (Lake Candlewood) and dozens of 500 acres lakes all across our little state.

With a 7 foot-long cockpit, a 22' mast, swing centerboard, a main and jib with a furler and a 3HP engine, it is more than adequate for weekend trips to NY state, Rhode Island, Massachusetts or New Hampshire or for a weekly summer rental by the shore. Take down the mast, add some bait and tackle, and you've got an ample fishing boat for protected waters.

My C-25's summer fees are about $900 on a floating dock in Milford, CT and $800 on the hard over the winter in Shelton. So somehow I've figured out a way to circumvent the Connecticut "gold coast"'s high cost of boating and have plenty of options.

When we started to look for a sailboat with a cabin we started with Catalina 22's. We did not know what we really wanted but we thought we needed a trailer to move to different lakes and the 22's were good boats for that. Then we met the Catalina 25 wing keel on a trailer and were sold on the extra room to spend weekends on. Slip fees here are in excess of $200.00 a month with a 12 month lease. We were able to get a slip for 3 months when we first got the boat and that was great for learning the boat. I have a system for stepping the mast and can do it by myself. We are into sailing more than the marina dock life. To each his own and everyone has to decide where their interest really is. We may change our minds as we go along, but for now we are pleased with what we have and are doing.

I see your sig says North Texas, What lake do you primarily sail on, we might be neighbors. I'm in Lake Ray Hubbard, if you haven't tried it yet, you'll probably love it.

When the weather is decent I find my family spending sailing and then spending the night Fridays, then sailing Saturday etc. I might even go out for a quick blast after work today..

We have 27 foot slips on floating docks for $165 a month, 12 month knocks 10% off of that, gate protected and nice amenities, pool, store, public nightclub/restaurant etc. We have people that come all the way from Plano on my dock and find it worth it.

Part of the dock life thing for me is that I'm a Vice Commodore of Entertainment for the Bay View yacht Club, which is a nice little informal group that does the beer can racing against other clubs on Wednesdays. After the race one boat brings dinner for everyone, we have grill, do wine tastings and some other fun stuff. So I like the racing, I like the cruising, meeting up at spots raft ups etc.

It would be totally cool to be able to try the other lakes in the C-25 but I have a Hobie 16 and an Escape Captiva for that. That's awesome that you have the WK, trailer and then system for the mast, how long does it take you to set up and tune your rig?

When I first started looking for a boat I thought I wanted a C22.

After looking at the size of the cabin on the first boat my wife said no way. Sooo I sucked it up (darn the luck) and started looking for a C25 (including on my honeymoon). I think it ended up taking 6 or 7 months before I finally located Andiamo.

Best decision I could've have made.

OT - Peter if you ever decide to sell your Hobie let me know. I had one when I was in my late teens and I'd like to have another one that I could take on vacation to the Hill Country.

I was on Eagle Mountain for a few months but have the boat home now getting some TLC done. It will be at Arlington Yacht Club soon. Our next planned outing is Lake Texhoma for a week in May. We will also be on Lake Whitney for a couple of weeks. When I investigated slips at Joe Poole they were all over $200.00 a month with a 12 month lease. Joe Pool Lake is the closest marina to the house and I would keep it there if I could do so for a few months at a time. We liked Ray Hubbard and looked at some boats there but it is a long drive from where we live. (Thirty miles Southeast of Fort Worth) I will say having a slip was nice as we could go sailing a few times a week quickly. There are several lakes we want to go to in Arkansas as well.

Yeah that is a long drive.

You might want to check out Dallas Race Week this year on LRH, even if you don't enter it's quite a spectacle. Typically it starts the day after father's day and there are races and parties for seven evenings. It's an awesome event.
