I am doing some upgrades on my new to me 1988 WK/TR, which I purchased last April and enjoyed sailing last season. In the process I have a balanced rudder available ($150), and will soon have a hood 705 furler available ($250). If anyone is interested PM me and I will get back to you with more info ASAP:
Description:
* Hood 705 Continuous Line Furler and Foil - this if for the Tall Rig so it would fit either Tall or Standard just by cutting the foil. The PO said he replaced the bearings in 2009. The continuous furling line loop should be replaced but is still useable, the drum, foil and all other hardware is in fine working condition (sailed it all season last year with a 150 Genoa on it and had no problems). The foil would have to be re-riveted I assume if I disassemble it, or I could leave it as one piece on the forestay as I plan to replace the forestay also (if you can pick it up locally in Denver as one piece). I'd ask $250 you pay shipping. The boat is currently on the dry with the mast down and covered so getting photos is a challenge although I have photos of the boat with it rigged from this past fall and summer.
* Original Balanced Rudder - The PO did some glass repairs or reinforcement on the upper (above water) leading edge, and started to grind out the seam crack on the leading edge and bottom of the rudder below the water line in an effort to reseal the hairline crack that seems to be common with these rudders. It appears to be structurally sound but would need the hairline crack above water on the trailing edge ground out also, then filled epoxied/repaired around the seam, and then sanded/faired/finished. I bought the boat last season and replaced the rudder, he said he was sailing it as it was before starting the grinding work for the seam with no problems.
The pintles have been removed but it looks like standard 2 hole upper and three hole lower mounts. I have no idea what it would take to properly ship this, but I would part with it for $150, you pay shipping. I can take photos and try to post if anyone is interested.
I still have the rudder sitting in my garage. Looks like you found another for a better price closer to home though. Let me know if you are still interested.
I will try to post some photos of the rudder today, I took a look at my pintles and on the lower pintle, the PO had welded an extension to the U shaped sleeve that bolts onto the rudder so the lower mount point had three holes instead of two, I thought this was standard but after looking at the pintles on Catalina Direct I realized it is not. So you would have to epoxy in that third hole for regular pintles. Looking more closely at the rudder I can see this was done as part of the repair it must have cracked around the original outside edge hole of the lower pintle and that is why it was repaired. I will try to show this in the photos as clearly as possible.
IrishSailor321 - The furler is the original Hood 705 for the tall rig that came with the boat. As I mentioned in the original post the po replaced the bearings in 2009, it furls and unfurls smoothly and I had no problems using it last season. The drum and foil are both in good condition, and everything worked perfectly. The continuous furler line worked fine but I think it should be replaced as it appears to be old. The furler is still on the boat, I plan on replacing it with a CDI because I raise and lower the mast by myself (using an a-frame I constructed), and the lighter weight and flexible foil of the CDI would make this easier for me on the tall rig. I also need a new forestay, and so I plan to do this all at once.
After the 80mph winds subside here, I will go down to the boat yard and take the cover off and see if I can take some photos of the furler also.
In the meantime I will dig up some from the sailing season that show the furler rigged on the boat.
Rudder Photos - I did my best to show the repairs made by the PO (around the lower pintle mount - the three holes) and the areas where the seams have been ground out and will need to be filled (mostly the leading edge of the rudder and the above water trailing edge and bottom). I think it would be a good idea to overdrill the mounting holes for the pintles also and fill and redrill.
Furler photos as rigged on the boat this past season, most of these photos are from Sept - Oct 2011, some are from May 2011, but all are from 2011 sailing season. Sorry I don't have any close ups of the drum or foil:

Hope it works out for you irish and jim. I'll hold off on the rudder, as my current is in great shape still.
Is the furler still available.........I just found out that new foils for my old Facnor TI are not available .and the sloop will be in deep poop if we have to spend big bucks for a high $ furler
Sorry I have been able to spend any time on the forum.
Irishsailor321 I do still have the furler, I have yet to take it off the the boat, I should be able to do that in the next few weeks if work/travel and weather cooperate.
Sam001 I do still have the rudder, Jim (jadboat) offered me $100 and asked that I pay shipping (maybe that was not clear from the post). My original asking price was $150 and you pay shipping or pick up. I also have the original pintles (found them in storage on the boat) they are in fine shape and I guess I could include them also. One has been beefed up to be three holes and much wider (top to bottom) than the original. Shipping looks to be (generally) about $75 and I think there would be additional cost in getting it properly boxed with some lateral support so it does not get damaged in transit, and if it were me I'd want to insure for $200 so if it were damaged during transit, it'd be covered, but that is my personal preference.
I have a local fellow catalina 25 owner that was interested but we both have been out of town and have not connected after our initial conversation in the boat yard.
protocol applies I am interested let you local guy have first shot-it saves the shipping from CO to SC decide if you want jims offer or not and I will provide my data after that you can get me direct off the email on the post yours does need repair but it is a start :-) LMK
