Aboard Simple Pleasures we leave the Captain out in plain site......I admit I do hide the Pussers in the forward cabin .........along with the Jameson's and the First Mates treasured Chambord (that stuff is expensive) .......we leave the Glenfidich out as a tease, but then again there are more beer drinkers here in NC so the good booze lasts a bit longer...and most of the rednecks can't pronounce the names of good beer like Spaten Brau or Grolsch and they think they are weird so they won't drink them. Anchor by 5, cocktails at 6 and dinner at 7......A sailors life is really rough.
I'm really disappointed with y'all. Why do you have rum to hide in the first place? I always thought a bottle of rum was like a bottle of wine - it goes bad once it hits oxygen. Thus, there should never be any left over in the bottle for it to need to be hidden.

...close to my thinking too, no need to hide: just keep an ample supply on hand
I'm generally a beer drinker, New Castle, Dos Equis Amber, Killians, Amberboch, but I do love Cpt. Morgans Private Stock, and don't hide it cause I'm the only one drinkin' it Thanks for the recommendations too, going to check out Kracken and Apt. Jerry's! A tip of the hat to those Mt. Gay and Appleton drinkers as well!
Bury it in the first aid / distress signal kit, hidden in plain sight. Every skipper checks for completeness and expiration dates before departing ;) Quickly becomes a very bad idea if your hiding the actual box containing all said items.
Rcmd install another battery box with some wires hanging out. Unlikely someone would check that box out. Then when you give up drinking, you can modify by adding an addl battery.
So I'm a fan of Mount Gay, my dad turned me on to it years ago. I'm also a scotch guy, a great blended is The Famous Grouse. When we got drop the hook for the day/night many times we don't have a bunch of mixers on board and my wife can't handle rum or scotch on the rocks like I do. Another favorite activity is wearing our ski vests like a diaper and floating around behind the stern with a drink in a squeeze bottle so I discovered Pinnacle Whipped Chocolate Vodka. It's not expensive and you can drink it on the rocks without any mixer and it's very smooth and almost tropical tasting. The chocolate is very subdued, so it's like a less sweet version of their Whipped Cream flavor, it's perfect for the ladies and I like t as well. Truth be told, we can even take shots out of the bottle which is a first for her, extremely smooth stuff, just be careful, as it is 80 proof.
Oh, and I've released the Kraken, that stuff is brutal.
I was just looking at the recipe for the Pain Killer in this month's Sail. All week it's been in the 70's and yesterday it was 84. Then a cold front moved in last night and it's 46, probably still going to go out today....
Oh, I don't hide the bottle, it just sits by or in the sink.
