Tilex does an excellent job of cleaning the soot that collects in the locker where the gas can sits. My question is, does Tilex damage the fiberglass of the deck, cockpit, etc?
I've been using Tilex for as long as I can remember. The only thing I can advise (and you probably know this) is to keep it way from cotton seems on cushions, etc. It will eventually cause them to break. Other than that, I swear by the stuff.
I use the Clorox bleach which is the same chemicals made by the same company as Tilex but twice the strength , Ingredient Sodium hypochlorite 5 - 10% CAS# 7681-52-9 Sodium hydroxide <1% I leave a cap full in the two sinks in a plastic container when leaving the boat to fight mould generally I use it watered down to tilex concentration for wiping any hint of mould I use it each year when water tank is almost empty to treat a litre / couple of pints of water (1 cap full) which I pump thru the water systems to clean them up before refilling the water tank.
Plastic fine but can be corosive to metal over a period so not good for cleaning metal bits . Tilex/ Clorox is a bleach so will effect materials . Dont put the cleaning rag on your cushions.. I keep a bottle on the boat ..
Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. Practical Sailor said no boat should be without them, and I agreed after my first use. The gray water looks pretty evil, so I sponge it up and dump it in a head ashore if I am using them on the water.
