Dear JD, just a short note to wish you a merry Christmas. Santa has been good to you this year because you have been really really good to us.
We won't be giving you any gifts at Christmas, you've already got many of them, and there's a few more headed your way.
But just in case you forgot, here's this years list of gifts.
Sails Cleaned (So you'll look pretty under full sail) Bimini Repaired (You'll look proud) New Battery Charger (So you don't have to hear us use expletives when the batteries go flat) New Batteries (2 Deep cycle so the battery charger is not wasted) (next weekend) New Spinnaker & chute (ok, it's 'New to you', you'll look awesome in light winds) Trailer upgrade, New Axles and Brakes, New hitch (we want you to reach the ramps safely, besides, we can now take you out of state too!) New Shakespeare TV antenna and amplifier (You'll enjoy all the additional channels we get) New LED lamps in the bulkhead lights (Couldn't resist them!) New 5 Gallon Porta Pottie (so you can hold more pottie ) New handheld VHF radio (we can talk to you when we're away on the dink) New Lifejackets (so if you throw us overboard in fun, we can get back on board and not be grumpy about it) New Masthead spinnaker crane (on it's way from CD) New Stripes (Sorry about the ding earlier this year, you'll look healed when these are put in next week) New name lettering (Sorry again, the pressure cleaner did a number on the existing ones, hope it didn't hurt too much!)
Dear JD: You're a lucky girl to be so spoiled. I can't complain though! My owners were good to me too and treated me like my real big sisters. They even let me sail for a month with my twin sister called "Sea Bear', to Desolation Sound. And before that they took me to Lake Havasu all the way in Arizona for a week-long get-to-gether with 140 or other sailboats. Our pictures were even featured on the front page of the Mainsheet magazine. Then they took me all the way to Mission Bay in San Diego for a month to sail on the ocean. My owners, whom I love, spent almost 5 months living on board this year and have big plans for next year. I am exited!!
Right now I'm spending a couple of months under my brand new tarp on the trailer while the snow is flying and weather conditions are miserable. Talk to you soon and... in the meantime, avoid hard landings, rough weather and above all keep your insides dry...
Someday Lady, you make me jealous! When they took me to the keys this year it was nasty weather and they chickened out and took me home
But, like you, I'm excited too! They are going to splash me for the new years weekend. WoHooo!
I don't think we (smaller boats) get the credit due! We're responsible for a significant part of the economic stimulus. Paul & Peggy helped a lot of small businesses this year keeping me in great shape.
Oh... goodie JD... so nice to hear from you again so quickly.
Actually it is me who is a little envious of all the additions and new things your owner has added for you to play with and to keep you safe. You even get to go out in the middle of the winter, now that is something to brag about.
Did I already tell you that my people H&J disappeared for an entire month to sail with one of those huge 2600 passenger and 1060 crew members stink potters on the south pacific nearly to New Zealand and left me cold and miserable on my, tarp covered wheels of the ground blocked up trailer, to go nowhere... I felt so deserted.
Fortunately my people finally quit talking about getting a bigger boat since they realize that I'm the maximum legal size for road transportation and therefore can take me anywhere. A real plus for me
Although I'm content I have a thing or two to confess about my owners... please keep it in your locker and I'll tell you... they are Dutch and as frugel as they come... some people even ask how best describe a Dutchmen... you probably say... they're cheap, abrasive etc. but I say "wooden shoes, wooden head and wooden listen". No joke... I've asked them several times about a real cabin heater, a second battery, shore power, new bottom paint, LED indoor lights and mast lights, roller furling and some of the stuff you were given. Your owners much be well-to-do.
Bye for now... please keep in touch

Sea Bear and Someday Lady this summer in Refuge Cove, BC
I'm freezing my mast off! Dave has given me a few accessories and dressed me up a little this year, and I will probably get a wreath and some sparkly things so I can be in the holiday spirit in the driveway. My new sail cover should be ready soon, but I won't get to wear it until I get to Pensacola. But I'm telling you, he's gonna have a lot more than weather helm to deal with if he doesn't get me to Florida soon. He tells me it will be the usual mid January trip again. At least he did off-load the Coke Zero and water this year; I still have some nasties from last winter in unmentionable areas that he hasn't found yet. The rest of you ladies have a merry christmas, fair winds and following seas. Lord, I wanna taste that saltwater and feel the sun and breeze!
My new owner took me home and replaced some teak in the companionway and refinished a lot of the other teak. He cleaned my bottom so I do not have that stuff on me anymore. I have some new line and fenders. He repaired the anchor locker and the sliding cabin roof with new fiberglass. I have new cushions in my cockpit and some new hardware. My engine had some controls redone and the plastic instrument cover replaced. I have new trim on the stern and the rudder overhauled. He had my new name painted on the stern but the Admiral did not like it and took it off. He will have it re-done this winter by a better artist. I have a new flag pole and flag, also, some drink holders. He polished on my hull until he got in a hurry to get me in the water-I hope he will finish me. I love the conch shell horn the Admiral got for me. I heard that my foresail will be cleaned and a new UV cover installed this winter. He gets boxes of things for me every week so I know I will have a great Christmas this year.
