Just returned from a 5-day charter out of Channel Islands Marina in Oxnard, visiting Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands. Day 1 started with light wind, maybe 5-6k. In the next 2 hours it rose to 40 knots with occasional gusts higher. By now we had a triple reefed main and a triple reefed jib (first time I've ever sailed that combination ! ) Finally had to drop all sails and motor to a harbor on the south side of Santa Cruz. The next 4 days were windless - go figure! I almost felt as though I was back on Canyon Lake! Anyhow, it was beautiful scenery.

Did you get to sail the Jenneau enough to judge how it sails? I sailed a Beneteau First 43.5, and it was one of the sweetest boats I have sailed. I understand Jenneaus are a division of Beneteau. How is the Jenneau different from the Beneteaus. Did the Jenneau impress you favorably in any particular respect?
Steve - it was a very comfortable boat for cruising but it had in-mast furling for the main and a R/F jenoa so it was a dog as far as speed goes. It did stand up pretty well to the gale force winds. I don't know the difference between Beneteau and Jeanneau and this one looked like a Beneteau!
I have sailed a Beneteau 323 numerous times. They are gorgeous down below, just a very appealing trim and floor plan. My friend's looks exactly like this down below:
This is his boat in a picture taken from mine...
On this same trip he returned the favor by taking this picture, he's much better with a camera than I am, one of my favorite pictures ever of Stephanos...
I will say that they seem quite tender in terms that they want to round up very easily. Very nice boats, but not the fastest. They have awesome dock appeal though.
Derek, I am curious how you like that charter. I am also interested in doing such a trip but have not really checked into it. I did find the company, I think, you used and is it correct its not a bareboat. You must use their captain. Any info would be helpful. I am not sure when I would do the trip, some time next year I hope. I watched the video on the charter site strictly about the Islands and it was incredible. I have to get there soon. And any pics would be great. Thanks, Steve A
Steve, it was a bareboat charter out of the Channel Islands Marina in either Oxnard or Ventura (I'm a total stranger out there!) It was booked by Judy's nephews so I'm not aware of any details. The scenery was awesome! Sorry I can't be more helpful...
