I am looking into installing a control box for my outboard and also need to connect my alternator to my batteries (no electric start). I have searched for how the cables and the wires would pass through the bulkhead and while i've seen a few things mentioned, I have not seen many pictures.
Can some of you post some pics on how you have made the transom penetrations. Could the "clam" type connector be used for the throttle/shift cables?
Also interested in figuring out the best place to penetrate (i.e. perhaps not the transom??).
Also, is the alternator regulation sufficient or should I get an external controller. I keep a solar trickle charger at the dock but do not use it while underway. My concern is that i would have close to full batteries and then I would be running the outboard.I have a 6hp tohatsu with alternator/regulator package but without electric starter.
Electric is esy, put a trolling motor plug set on the wires and transom. Control cable are more of an issue since they can't heavily compressed. I would look at some outboard power boats for approaches. The safest approach is to mount everything as high as you reasonably can.
