It's been a stunningly long and hot Texas summer. The weather guys averaged the temps and this has been the hottest summer we've ever had. It certainly has been in my memory, and I was here for that notorious summer of 1980.
Got notice a couple weeks ago they are going to start relocating the marina to deeper water (out in the slough) beginning last Tuesday. We won't have power/water while the docks are out there, and they're gonna operate a skiff to take people back/forth. Don't know about security...we have a guard who walks the docks at night and keeps an eye on things.
I took some pictures of the marina on Tuesday. My brother called me this morning and said they've already towed two docks out. I'll go back and take some more pics as the harbor empties out.
Here's a pic of half the marina:
You can see how low the water is getting:
Looking out the entrance, down the slough, there's a barge driving pilings:
I did some tune-up work to my motor over the weekend and took it back out Tuesday. I tripped the main breaker, turned off the batteries and disconnected the power line. They haven't asked me (or anyone else I know of) to do anything with my boat for the move, so I guess they'll take care of it and just tow the docks really slow. My brother has a house up on the hillside with a view of the slough. He said there's already 2 docks out there and will send me some pics from his patio. Should be interesting to see as the harbor empties out.
We need some dang rain!!!! I bet when we finally get it....it floods...lakes come back up and hit flood stage....seen it happen before when we get extremes like this.

When we left, we had just enough fuel to make it to San Juan. And now... we are out of fuel!
At least they're doing something for you, that seems unusual and pretty awesome. Our lake very low but it is auto leveled. I used to have 15 feet of water in my slip, now I have 9 which makes my depth alarm go off. LRH is giving up some of her secrets, the other week they found a submerged car with skeletal remains at the boat ramp by my slip.
A few years ago, the city changed out the 15' ramp from the fixed walk pier to the floating docks for a 30' ramp and in the process moved the docks out 15', after installing a new cable anchoring system. We did not have to move our boats (160 slips on 5 piers). wish I had been able to come out and watch!
You are lucky . . . there was a blurb on the evening news a few weeks ago where a town was taking water from a lake 50+ miles away. The family owned marina was unsure of their future.

Shhh! Don't say that too loud! Your flood may be sitting down in the Bay of Campeche!
The saying I've heard numerous times around the Hill Country is "In Texas -- Every drought ends with a flood"!
I helped "unstuck" a lifeboat conversion from its slip in the storm we had on Monday. Lotsa wind, and a little rain.
The lifeboat was pretty cool - converted to a ketch rig with inboard and all, very historical looking. Found out on FB later that night that the newby sailor who was out in it let her run up on the rocks when the wind and waves got to being too much for him. I feel for him and teh boat, and feel a little guilty. The boat woulda been better sitting on the bottom where she was stuck before I intervened.
