I have a second hand trailer which did not come with a post to mount a winch on. I launched my Cat 250 WK two years ago and need to get it back on the trailer. There is no travel lift on Lake Murray. Local welding shops are too busy to bother with fabricating a post to mount on my trailer. Where can I get a post to mount a winch on ? I'd prefer one tall enough to serve as a mast raising gin pole.

If your trailer is hot dip galvanized, you wouldn't want a welder doing anything to it as welding on it will surely result in rust. The better route to go is to bolt the upright on and its likely you can order it from one of the trailer outfits. And... when bolting on, its better to use large U bolts rather than drilling any holes in the trailer as that again, defeats that good hot dip galvanizing.

Well I finally got a quote from a local welder. Over $500 for just a very basic winch post and winch support. Following Arlyn's suggestion I found what I needed from TrailNSail.com (a.k.a. Road King Trailers in N. Carolina) for $235 plus shipping. And the parts are galvanized.

Our trailer is built by Road King, very easy to work with. I just ordered replacement springs today, about $30 each (need 4!)

The mast raising post on the trailer is really great! Makes things so much easier.

As the years roll by... you will say often, "I'm glad I didn't have any welding done on my trailer."
