Randall/NcBrew -- Let me know if things don't work out. I'm still interested.

Anyone have a suggestion on where to find the best price on a new CDI FF4 with bearings?

Hi guys,

I went scuba diving this past weekend and didn't get home to find out which CDI I have. I'll check this weekend and try to get some pictures to post.

"Even" & Steve, I know that I haven't given rollerfurling a fair try, but I'm a creature of habit. I'm used to using a downhaul, and I like having options in my sail choice. I went solo sailing last Thursday evening at Canyon Lake when the wind was running 15-20, and sailed only under the jib. I was absolutely whipped after an hour and a half of running back and forth from stern to bow (while ducking under the sidestays of my H25) trying to keep her on course into the wind while raising and setting the jib. I was sore all over the next day. In fairness to me though, I haven't sailed the boat in years (because of Army assignments) so I'm still trying to get it rigged for efficient solo sailing. Still, I must admit that a smooth-movin' furler would have been a boon.

I believe that the PO of my H25 cut the CDI about 2-3 inches too long. He then cranked down as far as he could on the forestay to bring the mast back up into position, but wound up with a lot of rake aft and a lot of slack fore & aft in the rigging. I noticed that the CDI had a scalloped appearance to it, as though it had been compressed top to bottom for a long time. If I remember correctly, it had plastic bearings in it, which concerned me for some reason.

Bottom line: since I didn't like the furler, and am not sure whether it is 100% serviceable (because of the scalloping & condition of plastic bearings), I'm not out to make any money from the CDI. Let me check it out this weekend, and take some pix so you can decide. NCBrew gets first shot at it. GaryB, you're a man of honor, and if NC doesn't want it, it's yours. I stay in San Antonio during the week, so we can figure out a link up point that's closer to you.
