We're moving the boat to Don Pedro for the spring/summer. The bottom paint is patchy... (undercoat ok). So: how fast does the junk grow up there? Worth the cost of a bottom job before launch, or do we just plan on taking it out every couple months and power washing?

Thanks -

Kevin

I don't know how fast it grows there, but I put one coat of ablative paint on my boat each spring on the Chesapeake Bay, and that's enough to keep it reasonably clean all summer. One coat of bottom paint would save you 3-4 haul-outs and power washings per summer.

I know how fast it grows in salt water - monthly bottom cleanings with good paint! Don't know about fresh water, though... The current rate for bottom painting in the Bay Area is $900 for one coat, plus paint... and my wife and I don't have the vacation time this year to do it ourselves.
