I finished the first leg of sailing my 1977 Catalina 25 currently named "Day Dream" from Hampton,VA to Elizabeth City,NC.
Next leg will be after I have it hauled at the shipyard in Elizabeth City. I am going to have it put on a cradle and refinish the swing keel. I ordered the swing keel kit from CD.
I may or may not paint it depending on what it looks like.
A question: What paint do you recommend?
I will also drop the mast and install the halyard plate as soon as I get the "Mast to cockpit" kit from CD.
You can review the trip at http://www.daydream.vacationinnc.com You have to click the pages at the top to go to the next page. this is my first try at IWEB.
This is my website where I have a cabin for sale also. If anyone is interested in a vacation cabin about 1 1/2 hours from the NC outer Banks and about the same time to Virginia Beach please e-mail me at amsoil@embarqmail.com

I spent most of my money on boats and beer, the rest I just wasted.
Congratulations, Patrick. That's a serious trip in good weather, more impressive this time of year.
Before you paint, you need to find out from the previous owner what's on the bottom. If it's a hard epoxy, then you can put either a hard paint like Trinidad SR -- good for warm waters and slime like your water -- or an ablative. I used to have Trinidad, but now use Interlux ACT ablative. Talk to other boat owners in your area to find what they use and like.
If you have ablative on the bottom, you have to coat it with more ablative, unless you have it stripped off.
Hats off to you Patrick! Your passion for sailing is more than evident here. Thanks for the extra effort of sharing all the pix. And we thought we had it rough trailering our recently acquired C25 600 miles . . . in a heated truck no less!
For painting the bottom of your boat, you may need to find some warm winter days when the temps reach into the 50's or higher. Here is some solid advice from Don Casey.
Sailboats sure provide lots of adventure, both on the water, and at the marina! Maybe you know all of this stuff, but I keep on learning more about my boat each time I work on something!
Practical Sailor essentially spends most of its life evaluating bottom paint. The most recent installment of this never ending saga was in the October 2009 issue entitled "Affordable Marine Antifouling Paint". You can go to their sight, http://www.practical-sailor.com/issues/35_10/features/Marine-Paint-Review_5832-1.html , and for a price purchase the article if you are not already a subscriber.
In my opinion, if I had already hauled the boat I would do the bottom paint. Especially if you are going to work on the swing keel. You might want to review a topic in this forum from a couple of months ago where I posed questions on how to work on and refinish the swing keel.
Great pictures and great for staying with the thread. I have had a difficult time to get my pictures on the Forum and your pictures get me fired up to try again. It is snowing outside here as I write so it is too cold to get to the boat. Spring is coming so more pictures.

I have a couple of "domains" and have an almost unlimited number of Subdomains. One of my domains is http://www.vacationinnc.com which I use to try to sell a cabin I have so I can make a subdomain like blackpearl.vacationinnc.com which I use to put up my trip and ongoing repairs. It does not cost me any thing to have these "SubDomains".
I may be able to make one for you if you would like at no cost to you. You could name it anything you like but it would have to end in vacationinnc.com, for example http://www.sweetcraft.vacationinnc.com
You would have to upload all of the files for your website. This would entail getting an FTP software but they are free.
I just had success with the shutterfly so maybe it will work. If not I'll take you up on the offer. I made offers to share and couldn't deliver so will get to it soon. Thanks
