So we headed out on Thursday for a Thurs,Fri,Sat,back on Sunday sail.
Spent till noon getting JD ready (late work every day this week so did not get my honey do list on JD done!) Trailed her down to Biscayne Bay (Black Point Marina) and had her ready to go in the water in less than an 90 mins.
Threats of rain forecast, but do you know how often they get it wrong down here? SailFlow reports got better every day, so thursday dawn breakfast skipper conference (me and the admiral) said "Let's do it"
Once in the water we headed by motor over to Boca Chita Key harbor. Got there as the sunset. Stepped ashore with the dock lines and in less than 1 minute I had a swarm of mosquitoes all over. I jumped back on board and peggy hit the throttle out of there.
We headed south to Sands Key anchorage. Killed a few dozen mosquitoes that had hitched a ride, while I cooked dinner - Brocoli Paster with ground beef, wine, chocolate.. TV. Relaxed.
This morning, the wind quickly picked up to at least 1 reef, then the rain started and the TV report showed worsening weather all day. Not much better on Saturday.. Hey! This is Florida... land of the sun! What the heck!
So we decided to head back home today.
JD is back alongside the house ready for some hull cleaning this weekend.
Oh well.
Dave Robins asked for some pics, I'll post them over the weekend.
Paul, sorry about the short trip. We have all had a similar experiences. At least you had one day out and had the sense to return. Who knows what else would have been lurking out there! I recall all set to sail to Catalina one time and a small craft warning came over my radio. We unpacked the boat and headed for the mountains and had a great time. Steve A
Bummer. Man am I glad we don't have to deal with mosquitoes out here. Of course you'll get more chances to sail while we wait for April and the lake to fill up again!
