I have a Yamaha 9.9 4-stroke and the original 2-spring bracket that Catalina installed when the boat was built. Needless to say, the bracket wasn't designed for this much weight and the springs have weakened over time. The greatest bracket (OMC hyraulic assist) I had on my 1981 C25 was an absolute dream - but it's no longer manufactured.
I've been away from boats for a couple/three years and I haven't been following new marine products.
Anyone researched and/or acquired a quality 4-stroke bracket lately?

I went with a Garelick for our Tohatsu 9.8. Here's the install story with photos. It's on a 250, but should still be helpful. I really like it.

Has anyone had any experience with the OMC hydraulic assist and a 9.9 yamaha 4-stroke? Will it handle the heavier motor?
Thanks,
Ed

I got the Garelick 71090 model for a 9.9 HP Four stroke Yamaha (25" leg) last year, I think that the vertical travel is too short (9") for the C25 transom, the prop does come out of the water at low speed and in choppy water, I think that the 71091 model with 15" of travel (And and additional $100) is a better choice.

I use the OMC mount with my Mercury Bigfoot 9.9 - its probably heavier than the Yamaha 9.9. It's a little heavy to lift - a little bit much for the Admiral, but I can manage it without much trouble. It's still a one handed operation, and it's otherwise a very solid mount.

There are (or were) two versions of the OMC, the early version was lighter duty - I think up to 85 lbs. The later version - more geared for 4 strokes was rated up to 125 lbs. I had the later model and felt like the it was designed for my 9.9 Yamaha 4-stroke. A gentle downward push to disengage and the motor came up with minimal assist. Excellent in every way. Would buy another without hesitation.

I bought the one through Catalina Direct and it is great. I am guessing it is a Garlick

I replaced my OMC for two reasons. First was I wanted to get rid of the wood bracket and second was that when the OMC was in the up position it would not allow the motor to tilt correctly because it was too close to the stern of the boat. I also have a yamaha 4 stroke.

Also, I think it travels lower which help keep it in the water.

I just bought a Honda 9.9 and replaced my old 2 spring with a 4 spring from CD. It works great!

The brackets from Catalina Direct are made by Garhauer. The benefit of utilizing this bracket is that it fits the same footprint/holes as the 2 spring Garheuer that many Cat 25's had originally. For me, that was the over-riding decision. I basically had no problem with the 2 spring bracket that came with my cat from the PO except that it needed addl springs to raise the heavier 4 strokes like those made by Honda or Yamaha. I basically removed the old bracket and aligned the new bracket with the existing holes, inserted the bolts, tightened them and job was complete. Did the work all by myself while boat was in the finger slip.
