We LOVE the stern rail ("catbird") seats on our C-250, but that hard railing in the back is a little uncomfortable. We're looking for some sort of railing pads / cushions; something like the rail cushions from Zarcor:
We just put a floating cushion behind our back but those rail covers look nice. We once bought a similar product but returned them. The tight radius of the rail on the catbird set made the cushion all bunchy. The ones in the photo look good so maybe this outfit is better. Buy a set and let us know.
I just made new covers for mine over last winter. Pretty easy to do. I bought fabric from the place I got my new mainsail cover. The actual padding looks like pipe insulation. I simply made sleeves to fit over the insulation. I'm sure somebody with more skill at a sewing machine would be able to make the right darts to accomodate the curve better than I but, mine work and look pretty good. I also made new covers for the padded lifeline gates as well as a new companionway cover. We got rid of the Royal Blue the boat came with and switched to Forest Green. I'll see if I can find a decent photo and try to post it.
I got some foam water pipe insulation from Home Depot. I cost a couple of bucks. There is a sticky backing tape you can use or I just wrapped thin rope around both ends and the middle. You can also use fabric of your choice around it and secure it using velcro. Steve A
I wonder how a wrap with a natural fiber rope would hold up? Put the pipe insulation over the rail then wrap it in rope. Maybe webbing of some kind? Hmmmmmmmmm???????
I have found that a pool 'noodle' (one of those colorful round 'noodles') can be cut / split lengthwise (they are hollow) and fits quite nicely to the seat back. Cheap and comfortable.
John, I use a natural fiber rope to wrap the pipe insulation on the seats. I wrap 4 or 5 times around each end and also in the middle. The foam insulation holds up pretty well. I have had mine 2 yrs now and still ok but starting to deteriorate. I dont have any cover over them. At a couple of bucks, who cares. I also use those pool noodles for the lifelines which are covered with sunbrella. Steve A
I second that from moserd. Only downside is lack of UV protection. The noodle will start to sluff off after a year in FL sun, but the price is right. A serrated blade makes cutting easy.
