I have an appointment move and splash the boat this weekend (Saturday 5/9). I've waited until now to paint the bottom. I'm using interlux ablative paint.
Should I be worried that if I paint today, and it rains tonight the bottom paint will be ruined?
Is there a minimum time between bottom painting and rain or splashing the boat?
This is the first time I'm doing this and any expertise would be greatly appreciated.
I found this chart on the interlux site: It mentions a maximum time before putting the boat in the water, but not a minimum time.
Too late for a retraction, I just finished it. Upon finishing the port side, the starboard side was already dry. I'll let everyone know if it holds up to the predicted thunderstorms tonight.
You'll be fine. And for most ablatives (unlike hard paints), there's no "maximum time" before launching--they remain effective from one season to the next, even when stored on the hard.
