...this morning. Took off from the marina toward my dock and was immediately stopped and boarded by the Coasties--nobody else out there. ("All right if we come aboard?" Only one answer to that question!) Happily, it had occurred to me that this could happen, so I had all necessary gear aboard, even though I hadn't gotten to my own dock yet. Nothing like starting the season with a clean nose...
The water in Fishers Island Sound was 45 degrees, and the wind off it felt the same. But the season has started!

Dave, We had our first sail last Saturday. I had the same thought as I nosed out into the sound. Not that many people for them to pick from so the chances are high. I too made sure everything was up to snuff. Perfect day on Saturday, Sailed around for 6hrs, but not a breeze to be found on Sunday.
I, too, went in this morning. The wind chill was 42F. I motored to my slip from the travelift well and buttoned her up, got in the truck and got warm again. Maybe this weekend for the boom and sails.
Congrats -- Hoping to be right behind you this week.
Got back from my 10 day business trip [successful] on Friday and on Saturday, started on the barrier coat[s]. The box said 12 mil but Don Casey says 20 mil. I finished six coats late Sunday. Then two coats of ablative bottom coat on Monday. Yard boss moved the jackstands and I finished the bottom on Tuesday.
Closed the seacocks, attached the docklines and set the fenders in the cockpit. I called the marina office and they put me on the launch list for this week.
I'll be down there every afternoon to check. Weather report calls for showers Saturday and sun on Sunday, so we'll be there on Sunday.
Finished rewiring the electrical panel and the rotary switch, plan on running an umbilical out through the starboard scupper to provide a 12V receptacle, the solar panel connections and the GPS data link to the VHF radio.
Once she's in the water, I'll replace the stern pulpit and stern running light and clean her up inside and out.
Sails are scrubbed and ready to be raised. Engine is tuned to the max.
Got my PFDs, plus two new inflatables, new flares, new air horn, trash & oil signage and the nav lighting is ready.
We launched on Friday 4/24 and had our first sail yesterday, was an absolutely beautiful day, 55 degrees F, solid 8k winds, sunny, sailed for about 90 minutes on small bay (Little Sodus Bay) on south shore of Lake Ontario. Besides an errant fishing charter cutting across our bow as he returned to his marina(they like to stake claim to ALL the water, first thing of the season) we were the only peeps on the bay. Gorgeous!!!
