David, at least you guys post stuff that is cheap so thanks in advance. I am still waiting for my gps holder. Its been more than 10 days. BTW, woot now has a headlamp. I got one of those elsewhere from one of our members post and boy, does that come in handy. I use it to BBQ in the dark and even wore while on my dinghy at nite so others could see me and not run into me. Plus it helped my crew while boarding on the dinghy dock as they needed all the help they could get after a night of debauchery. Steve A
Yeah, I was tempted by today's Woot, but I already have one that I rarely use that I actually bought for working on bowls on my lathe. I don't have good light at the end of my lathe, so the LED headlamp does it for me.
Chris, I check my front door every day when I get home from work. And I am bummed when nothing is there. I am kinda of an impatient person so it is good thing you warned me. Steve A
I talked to a friend of mine just now about today's Woot, he's a dive instructor, and doesn't think much of them. Says the lead-acid batteries won't last long, especially in colder water (like here in the PNW), and he doesn't like the limited depth capability (I personally wouldn't care, I think my days of diving below about one atmosphere are over). Quote from him: "these are mediocre by any means, and don't last long".
I saw the water scooter on Woot as well. I got the bigger one couple of years ago for $200. Its fun. I tool around when moored at Catalina. I have yet to use it for diving however. My nieces absolutely love it. They were initially afraid of the water but after using it, swim like dolphins. I highly recommend one, even the cheaper model. Its loads of fun. Steve A PS David, hope you don't mind that I changed the topic a little.
OK, let's keep beating the same horse. Today's Woot is a Grundig AM/FM Short Wave radio. I almost pulled the trigger on it until I read through the Woot forum and found this:
It's the nearly the same radio in different livery plus single side band (the Grundig doesn't have this) for $20 less and free shipping. Bear in mind that this model doesn't have the MP3/Storage/USB capability that the Grundig has, that's the trade off for SSB I guess. The Grundig is also adjustable in the AM band to change the steps from 10KHz to 9KHz for non-US (North American?) AM radio.
Read through the descriptions carefully so you know what each one does before buying. After reading through them myself, I'm torn. I'd like to have SSB, but really, when would I use it? The last time I listened to SSB was over 20 years ago.
