Some of you may remember that I sold my Catalina and bought an Island Packet in preparation for some extended cruising. I'm happy to say that my wife and I depart Charleston in four days, bound for the Bahamas! We will return home around the first of June. We will be actively maintaining a blog, and hope to post tons of pictures and stories. If any of you are interested in following our cruise, you can visit us at http://caitchiliandchipgocruising.blogspot.com/.
That's really great chip! I'll be following you along through your blog for sure. I have a good feeling that you have everything well prepared and the trip will be pure enjoyment. Good for you!
Enjoy...your Island Packet will take care of you. Its a great boat and well represented in the cruising community. We sailed the Bahamas in our cruising boat and really enjoyed it. The exumas are the best with Geogetown being the hub of activity with the cruising fleet. I have forgotten what the draft is on the IP but it is certainly less then my 6ft+ Rafiki. Anyway you will need to keep your eyes peeled for shallow waters as its very skinny indeed in the bahamas.
Thanks, everyone. Brit and Kendall: Yes, we will be stopping in Florida at least once. We plan on stopping at West Palm to rest and wait for ideal weather before crossing over to West End. (Initially we were going to start in the Inaguas and head north, but have decided to reverse that). We also may stop in Cape Canaveral first, but that will be determined after our first couple of days out. If conditions are ideal, we'll head straight to West Palm. If not, we'll stop over in Canaveral and rest. Dave: If you subscribe to the blog (free of course), it will email you every time we update it. Based on our location, we hope to be able to update bi-weekly, if not more often. I'll certainly try to post up lots of sailing/technical pics for you guys. I'd also like to say that this forum still rocks. It is leaps and bounds beyond the Island Packet forums! I'm glad to see how active this forum still is, and also to see so many old stand-bys still around. Thanks again, everyone.

Chip when I click the "follow this blog" link I need to login with a GMail account. Is there some other way?
I got in, no problem... Love it, another kool aid drinker! Do you have SSB? We are right behind you (hopefully) in the next month or so. West Palm is a hike from Beaufort... We accidently ran into the Gulf Stream with northerlies blowing, not fun. Have a great trip!

Yeppers.... We watched as the water temp started rising even though we were wearing out areas of our chart with hourlies marked exactly where we had already been twice! Seems as if the stream was curving closer to shore and we headed in when the world got a little rocky, hence the diversion to Savannah. Never got a decent weather window further south before we had to fly out.
Never mind The Race - I'd put that at number 12 or something, Hell Gate - fun stuff!
