Thanks! That might be worthwhile... I once had a roll of 3" white rigging tape that was incredible--heavy, strong, UV-resistant,... and a bit expensive. I can't find it anywhere now. I'm now down to the end of my roll of high-quality 1" rigging tape, and can't find anything that matches it, either.
I haven't seen this stuff yet, but I've had really good experiences with Gorilla Tape (same folks that make Gorilla Glue). It doesn't come away clean like this stuff is supposed to, but man dos it stick, like duct tape of old, the kind of stuff we got in the military.
I wish I had known about this stuff before Ike ripped through. I taped up my companionway. sliding hatch, and forward hatch to try and keep out blowing rain. After the storm I couldn't get to the boat because the area was blocked off to everyone but residents. After a week most of the glue and reinforcing stayed on the boat and only the gray backing came off. I've got a lot of cleaning to do this weekend to get the rest of the residue off.
I've used blue masking tape to seal my companionway for a storm--can't say whether it'd hold in a hurricane, but it's worked in tropical storm conditions. <blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">Performance Plus Duct Tape Nuclear Grade<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">That and a Playstation and Ahmadinejad would have all he needs!
Gary, I used duct tape to seal up the setees, hatches last winter. The boat sat all last fall, winter and into April. Could not get the residue off this spring, tried EVERYTHING finally with the help of the sun and my Sears power washer I was able to knock all the residue off when I brought Brandy home this fall. Hope this helps.
Um, I have used the 3M performance plus duct tape. Works as advertised. However, one thing they don't mention is that the role of duct tape doesn't float when dropped into the water at your slip. :(
(PS, I believe "nuclear grade" is landlubber speak for "suitable for emergency head repairs")
gaffer's tape. I would say it is a great thing to have but I'm not sure how well it holds up to hot storage onboard. Used it for years. Black, white, gray. Now they make many types and sizes.
