Anybody going to Annapolis for the boat show? I can't make it again this year. It's the last weekend before my boat gets pulled. I'n hoping for good weather.

I went to the Norwalk (CT) show, where much of the Newport show stops off on their way to Annapolis. Newport is closer to Mystic, but I spend most weekends down by Norwalk...
I climbed up on the bridge of a 54' Nordic Tug--holy nosebleed, Batman! Went aboard a beautiful Tartan, a huge I.P., a Catalina 350 (I think), and some other incredible stuff... Then after narrowly escaping the Sham-Wow saleslady with my life, I talked to a guy who offers "the only" web-based training program for the captain's license exams--saw a demo... looked pretty good. Something like $700 for a six-pack license (including test), minus $200 for signing up at the show. (I didn't.) Saw an Eastern like mine for $15K more than I paid, mostly due to oil--that felt pretty good.
All signs are the high-end builders have been doing well, but there won't be many investment bankers buying new holes-in-the-water right now. The big production builders are hurting--there might be some unprecedented deals in Annapolis.
I may go. I went two years ago and it rained cats and dogs but enjoyed it. I skipped going last year. I have to see what if anything I am doing that weekend.

The problem is taking off your shoes to go aboard, and coming back to find them full of rainwater.
I go every year. I'm mainly interested in the stuff in the tents--sailing hardware, and the like. I try to buy something inexpensive, so I don't have to buy a new boat:)
I'll be at the Sailboat Show first thing Sunday Morning. My wife and I are leaving in about 15 minutes heading past Annapolis and then South to canoe the marshlands at Blackwater Natl Wildlife Park in Cambridge, Md. Then plan on heading up North to Easton, MD for an afternoon Bike Ride in the St. Michaels area and sleeping overnight in Easton. Then we head to the Boat Show and expect to get there before or at starting time. Then we head for home from there.
Not sure if any of you will be there on Sunday and I won't be able to check EMail again. Anyway, I will be wearing my blue sailboat cap with the dog in the sailboat on the front and "Outerbanks" on the back of it.
SV Lysistrata is in the anchorage in front of the Naval Academy after a 60 hour run from Block Island, inside LI Sound, araound Cape May, thru the C&D in the dark, a few hours rest and Voila! Annapolis at the worst possible time!
No parking - we rented a car so we could reprovision a bit. Anchorage is full, we are literally on the edge of the anchorage so we wouldn't have to feel like we were in NYC as everyone is on top of their buddy... Grumble, grumble...
We are going Monday, just 'cuz. We've never been to the Annapolis and up until now the Newport show. We're here, might as well part with 16 bucks!
Best part about Annapolis? Bacon Sails!!! Used sails, used gear at really good prices. Consignment shops in my opinion often suck. This one is awesome. Skip the show, go to Bacon's. We just got a nearly new 70W, 5 amp solar panel for $195, a new tether that will not come undone, and a really cool mini orange bumper/float for use as an anchor marker, etc.. for 6 bucks! Sailors Paradise I tell you.
Back to the show, so Monday... I'll be there wearing a white T that says Lysistrata on the back and has a picture of a racing/cruiser with the words, "Sailing - the ultimate blow job." My hot blonde wife shouldn't be too far...

I was there Friday, and asked if any of you guys were around, but no luck at that time. At the Catalina display I talked with Max Munger, a C30 racer who has raced in many of their National Regattas. I mentioned that there is a good C30 that I have been racing against in Solomon's Island all summer, and his eyes lit up and he said "That's my boat - Shur-Max!" He's a typical Catalina nice guy.
The best part of the show is when its over. 17:00 rolled around and an hour and a half later all of the boats were gone. Hilariously, at least for me - was when the announcer stated "Gentlemen start your engines - that means you Beneteau. This song is for you - Who let the dogs out!" I laughed so hard I spilled a bit of my 4th PainKiller!
Sadly, nearly all of the production boats are just plain crap with poor ballast to displacement ratios, horrible floorplans (who ever thought that placing the galley forward to port in front of the salon was a good idea?), no proper sea berths with lee cloths, and rigging that makes yarn look strong. Even stranger still, all but one of the BendyToys and 99% of the other production cruisers didn't even have radar. $489,000.00 for a boat that doesn't have radar already! Geez! Nice Carbon Fiber mast and wheel, but in the real world me thinks you would rather have radar installed. Style over substance.
