Well, I've been on vacation for a week and got home earlier today expecting to relax before going back to work tomorrow. Now I have to figure out a way to get off tomorrow long enough to move my boat to the hurricane hole marina I found a couple of weeks ago.
Within an hour and a half an area of low pressure south of Mobile,AL went from nothing to a Tropical Storm with 45 mph winds and heading straight for where I live. According to the NHC the storm dropped 5MB in 1-1/2 hours! Their hinting that it might be a hurricane by landfall!!!
If the current track holds the eye of the storm would go directly over my house on Tuesday afternoon.
Sounds like it's going to be one of those Mondays!
Where you moving your boat too? I put on some extra lines today on my boat. Don't anticipate the storm being bad enough to require much more. If you need help moving your boat let me know. I'll be available all of tomorrow evening.
I'm moving it to South Shore Harbor if I can get in. I'll be calling them first thing tomorrow morning. They have floating docks and are considered a hurricane hole marina. They are surrounded by land on all four sides once you're in the marina. The docks have 12 - 15' of vertical travel according to the marina people.
As of the latest update at 10PM tonight the NHC is saying there's now a good chance that it will reach minimal hurricane force winds by landfall midday Tuesday with the latest track taking the eye directly over Kemah.
I'm going down around 4:30 tomorrow morning to get the boat ready to move and then will go to work. Hopefully my boss will understand and let me off early in the morning long enough to move the boat.
I'm in a private condo marina "Seagate" on the north side of clearlake. near the Seabrook Beach club. I have about 10' of vertical travel on the risers in my slip. At Cat1 I wouldn't expect more than 5 feet of surge in clearlake. I'll take my electronics and sails off the boat tomrrow evening just in case and just hope for the best. If we end up with North winds I am okay. To the South I am a little exposed though.
Hey Gary, hope all went well at the house and boat. I already had e-mailed you at home before I read this. Hope all is well and we get some of the left over rain!!! We need it up here
I just replied to your email. Everything is fine here at the house on the far southwest side of Houston. One wind gust to 25 mph and only .71" of rain.
I haven't been to the boat but feel pretty confident it came through OK. I'll know for sure tomorrow afternoon.
Looks like the rain is almost to Hillsboro headed your way.
