I hate to say this, but I am contemplating selling my 1982 Catalina 25, standard rig with swing keel. I love my Sapphire Breeze, but I just wish I didn’t live 80 miles from the Chesapeake Bay. I wouldn’t be selling her if I lived closer, it’s just difficult to bring friends and family out and I wish I could sail her more often. My job is also going to have me traveling more often, so that's another factor. I’m posting this as a feeler. If I receive a good offer, I hope some new owners will enjoy this magnificent boat as much as I have.
List of features: -Swing keel, 5’ draft down, 2’ 8” up allows for great stability and pointing ability as well as access to shallow less crowded anchorages and less expensive shallow slips. -135% Genoa from North Sails Cruising Direct bought spring 2006. -Roller furler -Original mainsail -1998 Honda 15hp 4 stroke extra long shaft outboard with electric start. Runs excellently, plenty of power, efficient, and is relatively quiet for an outboard. -4 spring Garhauer outboard bracket installed 2006. -Pop-top for plenty of standing headroom and fresh air at anchor/dock -Wind scoop for the forward hatch at anchor. -New improved bow light, anchor light, steaming/deck combo light all with new marine wire to the circuit panel. -Rewired mast with Catalina Direct’s kit. -43 watt Kyocera solar panel installed May 2008 charge the two battery banks -Sony stereo with Polk speakers installed May 2008 -Upgraded Catalina bow stem fitting with anchor roller; much stronger/safer than original installed June 2007. -All new swing keel hardware installed June 2007 (bronze castings, pin, bushing, spacers, keel cable, turning ball, winch, and keel hose). -New Jabsco marine head spring 2006. -New plumbing for head June 2007. -New tiller May 2008 with tiller stay and custom fit cover. -Bimini installed on custom made genoa track cars. -Spinnaker pole & topping lift, adjustable ring and track on mast, and secondary winches. -B&G knot and depth meter -Alcohol stove -Dinette interior which converts to queen size berth with inflatable mattress. -Curtains -Adjustable main sail outhaul and boom topping lift, July 2007. -Cockpit cushions -VHF -Bulkhead mounted compass -Life jackets -2 Fire extinguishers
My C-25 is very unique with the professionally painted Flag Blue Awlgrip hull. I’ve been told several times it’s the most beautiful C-25 ever seen and regularly get comments, even while out on the water. The Awlgrip is very easy to maintain, no polishing needed. She looks like new using their wash and wipe on polymer sealant.
I just refished all my teak this spring with Cetol Natural Teak finish and Cetol Clear Gloss.

An interesting fact, she was featured in the major film “Failure to Launch” starring Matthew McConaughey.
For more photos, you can view my blog here http://www.sailblogs.com/member/justinc25. I have documented just about all the work I completed and most of my sails. This is a chance to own a one of a kind Catalina 25 that is ready to sail in very good condition. She is a beauty and most people have a hard time believing that she is from the early 80s!
I am asking $10,900 and open to offers. She is docked in Mayo, MD. Please contact me at Justin_4192 at hotmail.com

If not, we all know you will be back on the water someday, with your love for sailing. Good luck!
Good luck with selling your boat. If the over-riding factor is the distance and not the job (travel), then perhaps you would want to consider docking your boat on the Potomac River. I live in Oakton and keeping the boat on the Chesapeake would be ideal for sailing but not the travel time back and forth. The sailing and maintenance would eb limited to only weekends and then limited more due to the distance and time available for a sail. The Potomac River is not quite the same sailing but a whole bunch of sailboats sail on the Potomac every day. It would cut your travel time and gas costs way down - maybe a 1/3 of what you are experiencing presently. You would make much more use of your boat and possibly during the weekdays as well depending on where you work. Two locations - James Creek Marina and the Washington Sailing Marina would be okay for sailboats. The James creek Marina presently has slips available - All floating docks.
John, I would love to move to Annapolis, there are just two problems. I made a huge mistake and bought a condo 2 years ago. As everyone knows, the real estate market has tanked, especially my community. I cannot move. Second thing is I recently started a new project at work and now really enjoy my job. Commuting to Reston, VA from the Annapolis area would be a horrible commute. Yes, I’ll definitely be back on the water and probably with my own sailboat again someday. I’ve also made some very good sailing friends that are welcoming me to sail with them on their boats whenever.
Larry, I’ve considered relocating to the Potomac, but I probably won’t get much more use. It takes 45-60 minutes to get to DC/Alexandria in little traffic and it takes usually 90 minutes to get to Mayo. I figured the average 30 minutes longer would be worth it for the huge bay. I’ve gone to the Sailing Club of Washington in Alexandria a few times after work, but don’t bother now because I’d sit in traffic for over 2 hours and it isn’t worth it. The other thing is I checked out slip rates for James Creek Marina and they are over $1k more than what I currently pay. Washington Sailing Marina is still over $800 more a year and that is where I did consider in the past. Their rates have gone up quite a bit since the last time I looked a about year ago. If they were lower, I might consider it again.
Randy and Pat, Yeah, I should call up my good friend Matt and see if he could help sell the boat. In the movie he was explaining his clients the sailing lifestyle and was showing the larger sailboat to the right of mine. If you haven’t seen the movie, he’s a yacht broker.
Like I said in the first post, I am contemplating selling; this is a feeler. I just made my final slip payment for the year and am paid through next March (slip should transfer). I am going to continue to enjoy sailing her since most of my expenses are paid this year. Yes, I do realize my asking price is high and that is because I’m in no rush to sell. If you look at yachtworld.com, you will find several C-25s more expensive than mine and not even close to as nice. I am open to offers though, so feel free to make one if interested.
Justin, I predict total paralysis of the arm and hand when it comes time to sign the bill of sale... You have one of the jewels of our fleet--worth too much to sell. Have you thought about a trailer for a year or two while your life settles? Then you can still "mess about with boats".
You are welcome at anytime to hitch a sail with me if you get the urge. Oakton is just below Reston, so we are neighbors. Also, so far I have gotten together with John P exchanging sails with him (Dc & North of Annapolis. We will probably get together again in the near future.
