I just took a look at the updated owners list and I was impressed by the number of Catalina and Capri owners on Long Island Sound. I met a couple last summer who introduced me to a group called the Long Island Sound Catalina Assn (LISCA).
Their group includes Cats of all sizes, not just 25s
Any members of Cat-Cap25s and Lisca?
Just curious - seems like they have a very active group.
Bruce Ross Passage ~ SR-FK ~ C25 #5032 Port Captain — Milford, CT
Good group... We were members for a bit but weren't able to participate with them at the time, except for the great "fleet nights" at a WM store (usually Milford) after Sunday night closing, with a blanket discount for everything in the store. LISCA is mostly bigger boats, but worth trying. They do weekend events in Port Chester, Oyster Bay, etc., and cruise up the Sound. My friends Bonnie and Austin Zipeto (C-34 out of Black Rock) are still very active.
Yes, they are a very active group and there are a few 25's as members. I do not belong as it is always tough to get the boat to their events...a bit far from Northport. We did try a few years back to form, start, create a fleet on LIS, but it never really got off the ground. I wouldn't be against trying again...
My wife (the admiral) and I met with a group of them last July in Bridgeport's Captains Cove. Fun-loving group, and as Dave mentioned mostly larger boats.
Cathy and I sail from Brewers Stratford, so might be able to make certain LISCA events.
We plan to explore mostly from Branford and points east or around Port Jefferson this summer. Furthest we could do in a day would be Westbrook or Northport, I reckon.
It would not be a bad thing to try to set up a rendezvous somewhere in the LI Sound & sometime over the summer if anyone were interested.
I have heard good things about the group but, as mentioned above, more larger boats than smaller and with time so tight it is tought o get to some of the events. It would be fun to have a bunch of 25's work toward getting together though. Bet I could get the needed moorings, etc at my club in Rowayton -- something to ponder.
Passage knows the way (and knows the Five Mile River).
I might just crash your party! I'll be taking Sarge down to Darien from time to time (about 4 hours from Mystic)--mooring at Noroton Yacht Club. She sleeps only two but parties 10.
