My new radio is capable of making automatic fog signals, etc. as well as being a loud hailer, etc. This seems like a pretty handy thing to have, especially around here where it can get pretty foggy at times (like today for instance).
If you've mounted one, where did you put it? A logical place seems to be up the mast six feet or so, but I don't really want to drill more holes into the mast or have another line to trip over up there. Then I thought about mounting it on the slope from the mast to the foredeck, but realized that's prime tanning acreage, and decided against that.
My current favorite is to mount it on the starboard side above the deck joint where it should be out of the way of lines, feet, etc. I see two drawbacks with this, you won't be able to hear it so well on the port side, which probably isn't a big issue, if it is, just turn it up, and water intrusion through the mounting & cable holes.
I've also thought about mounting it somewhere on the bow which seems like a logical place, but it's not easy to get wires routed up there as far as I can see, plus there's not much room up there for extra equipment.
Thoughts anyone?

While we're waiting for a "real" reply, I use a small, plastic megaphone my boys brought home from a soccer game. It's easy to store in the cockpit (7" long), bright int. orange, and was free. You can get them for two bucks here: http://www.pomexpress.com/ShopSite/meg%20pp101%20page.htm
This is going to sound goofy but I bought a half a dozen of those cheapo plastic megaphones at the "dollar store" and distributed them to the folks on my pier. It started as a kind of joke but now ...we USE THEM ALL THE TIME!
Same here. I use the small plastic megaphone to communicate with other boats on the lake and to fishermen who like to cast their lines in front of my slip. They work great.
