I'm seeing talk about raising dues for membership. To me this is pretty much a "virtual" association. I really like the forum and am finding tons of useful information here. I paid my dues thru paypal just to support that, but you don't have to be a member to access the forum. I really don't see much added value in the "members" area and it doesn't seem to be updated anyway. The one thing I always do to help support the website is watch the google ads on the left sidebar and if I see something that looks like I have a legitimate interest in I visit that site. The way that works is the site that sponsored that ad link pays anywhere from a few cents up to a dollar or more. I use google ads on some of my websites that are information sites and it is a way to bring in a little extra money from the general public when they visit the site and then follow a link that is of interest to them. I know you can have up to 3 different google ad units on a page. Maybe the association could make those more prominent on the forum pages to encourage more people to click on those on the way out of the site.
The association has garnered nearly a thousand dollars of Miscellaneous Income so far this year due to forum participants clicking through and making purchases via the web affiliation programs, such as Amazon and Google.
Yes, but the distinction is that google ads are not an "affiliate" program. They are "pay for click", so the association site gets paid when someone clicks thru on an ad. They do not have to make a purchase. It would be dishonest for association members to just randomly click on those to generate money for the site, but if there is something that is of legitimate interest, then that is what the sponsor sites are paying for, to get visitors to their site.

I think JB was using that term generically. The officers for the past few years has referred to the advertising by all of our sources as affiliate advertising.
Thanks for taking the time to point them out. I should also note that EBAY links, many links on our "links" page and the amazon link as well as the google search all generate $$ for the group.

Thanks for pointing that out about the links page. I had not paid much attention to that page. Do you know, do we get anything for a referral to BoatsUS insurance? I just got a quote from them. If there is anything in it for the association I'll be sure and let them know I saw the link on this site.
