Oh man, that sucks, were you on board when she went aground? Wonder what went through the skipper's head when it happened. He had to know his career was over.

Amazing they could build ships of this size 328ft (LST-883), laid and launched in 1 1/2 months and commissioned within 2 months, and 523ft (LST-1194) 9 months to launch and commissioned within 19 months.
