Is there a sailboat out there similar to our 250's, o/b, tiller helm, simple electrical, but with standing headroom? In all honesty, I think I'm considering a 30 just for the headroom issue.
Very nice, shoal draft, not speedy, and a bit pricey.
Also, on the used market, the Cape Dory 25D (not the 25) is a sweet, classic boat with decent headroom and inboard diesel. The Cape Dory 26 is very similar but with a outboard well. Both are Carl Alberg designs. The Cape Dory 25 is not, and is much smaller below.

Its nice and as Dave said "pricey". There is standing head room but it seemed to me it didnt have as much room inside as the 250WK.

Other than headroom, the C-250 with its gunwale-to-gunwale cabin trunk (no side-decks) and full width aft berth is bound to seem like the biggest 25-footer on the water--except for having substantially less storage than the Com-Pac or C-25.
quote:
With the full keel of the Com-Pac, the light winds you enjoy with your 250 will barely get that full keel moving.

That's not a full keel--it's a cut-away shoal keel, longer than deep, and therefore comparatively limited in lift and not for high performance--like the C-25 wing. I wonder more about the shallow-draft rudder... At least it isn't deeper than the keel! (...right, C-25 wingers? )
quote:
That ComPac is nice but way too much exterior teak...

...or from another point of view, the C-250 has way too little!
Dave is right, you are going to have a tough time finding a 25 footer with more cruising accommodations than the 250 at a reasonable price. Gee, you might be stuck with us!
Like I said, Randy, it's the head room I crave and NOT the diesel and electrical. I'd be completely at the mercy of diesel mechanics and marine electricians 'cause I be a mechanical and electrical DUMMY! And speaking of electrical, PRETTY PENNY is totally self-sufficient with the sealed gel Group 24 and the 5 watt solar panel trickle charger. Half my interior lights are now LED's and my Tohatsu 9.8 electric start starts every time the last six months. So...unless I find a "perfect", affordable 30 I shall remain faithful to my PENNY and this supurb forum.

I was just reading a few of the reviews... One guy in San Diego took the prop off the inboard, permanently. Gutsy!
Funny story re a 25Compac. I looked at one in San Diego with my wife. It was absolutely beautiful. Yes lots of teak and windows that open. My wife asked the broker how much and he said 45 or 55, I cant remember by my wife who had no knowledge as to the costs, thought that was a steal compared to the other sailboats I had been looking at and said, "Lets take it!" I said somewhat shocked and dismayed by her response. I knew she loved me, but THAT much. I said to her, "You realized that's $45k(or $55K)?" She came back and said, "Oh I thought $4500." Well you would think that would kill the deal but she still said, "OK", but what killed the deal was the length was almost 28' due to the bowsprit, and would not fit in my slip. Steve A
