Hi, I'm going to Cuyamaca College next month for a training day. Never been to El Cajon before. If you were going to go there where would you get a motel for a couple of nights? Will be there Nov. 9 and come home on the 11th. Thanks in advance. Matt
Matt, I graduated from Cuyamaca quite some time ago. While it's located in El Cajon, the campus is sort of out in the middle of nowhere closer to Jamul, which is the sticks. The closest hotel that you'd want to stay in is probably this one:
Quality Inn & Suites San Diego East 1250 El Cajon Blvd. El Cajon, CA 92020 (619) 588-8808 (619) 588-8482 - Fax choicehotels.com
The nice thing about the hotel is that it puts you right next to I-8 so you'll have easy access if you want to go look around a bit. It sits on the on ramp, get a room in the back of the hotel so you don't have to listen to the freeway. It sits right below my old high school, which is up the hill behind the hotel.
There is the standard TGI Fridays kind of places not too far at Grossmont Center, and some better restaurants a bit closer if you're interested. I can provide recommendations if you'd like.
It's still a bit of a drive to get to the college from there, but it's an easy shot east on Chase Ave, then right (south) on Jamacha to get to the school.
Stay at Motel 6 in Hotel Circle for $53 and I'll meet you after the training and take you sailing. Its a few miles from the college but on I - 8, right by Mission Bay, and close to the airport. On my way from the office to the boat.
Be ready to work the foredeck and go up spinnaker.
If it is too late and dark to sail I'll at least motor around the bay and drink a beer or beverage of your choice, eat something, chase pelicans and seals, ....
With people like this on the forum, how can you go wrong. I'll get a place booked and find out the flight times. I guess you suggest getting a rental car instead of a hotel shuttle.
