I had to cut the bronze prop shaft on my 86 Universal powered Catalina. I plan to have a 316 stainless shaft machined as a replacement. The hub(coupling) that mounts the shaft to the transmission hub is very rusty and in poor condition. Does anyone know a source for these hubs or must they be machined? I am considering going back with the PYI PSS shaft seal to replace the stuffing box. Does anyone have experience with this?
Can't help you with the stuffing box (we have a dripless that has ntohad any issues.
For Universal parts you can start with (http://www.marinedieseldirect.com). As the guy who's lookig at the Universal I recently mangled said "you can always buy obsolete parts, but like a dinosaur bone it ain't cheap". Hopefully there is some newer part that fits.
