A C-27 is sailing out of our marina and it has a great looking teak bow-sprit. I need to upgrade to a bow roller and I think a bow-sprit would look great. any one have one and what are all of your thoughts.

Call Catalina Yachts and see if they are still available. The 27 was a tall rig and the sprit makes for a longer J, you will see them on tall Catalina 30s as well. I noticed Forespar has a new sprit kit but it is just for headsails.

If you're planning on it only as an anchor holder, perhaps... But never for changing the rig as on the C-27 and C-30 Tall Rigs (which are what have the sprits)--that's a set of structural and architectural issues that shouldn't be messed with, affecting rig balance and integrity. I suspect the main challenge would be the anchor locker, which limits the ways you can properly secure a sprit as an anchor holder. Keep in mind that the rode pulling side-to-side on the roller in the sprit, during a serious blow on the hook, will create significant forces on its attachment points.

Clay,
Another issue to keep in mind when adding a bowsprit is it will lengthen the overall length of your "measurable" boat. If your marina charges you by the length of the boat it may increase your slip fees. It could also increase the length sufficiently that the marina may want you to move to a longer slip. Better check into that before you commit. I know it would affect my situation.
