Catalina 25, 250 and Capri 25 Nationals June 28th & 29th, 2008
The 2008 Catalina 25, 250, and Capri 25 National Championship has been awarded to the Oklahoma City Boat Club. Now I may be somewhat prejudiced, being a member of the OCBC, but I can tell you we were the best choice for 2008. This club has a long history of hosting national events. The list of US Sailing events alone would impress with the O’Day Single Handed Championship in 1977 and again 2003 as well as the Ida Lewis Championship, the Prince of Whales Match Racing Championship, and the Mallory Cup Mens Championship. We have also hosted national championships for the Catalina 22’s, the Snipes, the Prindle 19’s and most recently the J-22 North American Championship. As you can see we are nationally recognized for our race management skills.
We are also recognized for our hospitality. This year’s event will be hosted in conjunction with our annual charity regatta, known as Lighthouse on June 28th and 29th, 2008. Each year we raise thousand of dollars for local, children based charities. The parties on Lighthouse weekend are legendary (at least locally).
You are welcome to stay on your boat, or in one of dozens of hotels within a five-mile radius. Limited camping is also available, but remember, this is Oklahoma and daytime temperatures are often in the 90’s.
Things to do? Yes, there are many area attractions for the whole family. The Oklahoma Western Heritage Museum, The Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial, Bricktown, and Remington Park and Casino are all within a 15 minute drive. You won’t go hungry either with a multitude of great restaurants, some as close as next door!
The club has two hoists capable of launching your boat, two ramps, and a mast raising device. There is plenty of trailer parking on the grounds, and best of all, the trip from harbor to race course is five minutes long. The races can be viewed from shore. Visit our website WWW.okcboatclub.com for more information. The Notice of Race is near completion and will be posted on the Catalina 25/250 website soon. We may have a few boats available for charter and some of our members may be willing to race with the help of experienced crew. I raced in this event in 2005 and really had the time of my life! My email address is Steve@arokc.com. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
