Don, the bimini on Frayed Knot does not require any modifications. Here's a thread with some other projects if you'd like something that extends a little further aft: http://www.catalina-capri-25s.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14681& SearchTerms=bimini To my knowledge, these other projects didn't require any mods to the boat. They do however incorporate provisions for extending aft of the backstay. Send me a note if I can answer any questions about my project. nmforester @ comcast.net (no spaces).
I'm 6'4" and I'm just glad I can sit under it! I have a tall rig and as I understand it, the tall rigs have a lower boom. To give you some perspective on that, when I stand up in the cockpit my boom is shoulder height. Since my bimini fits under the boom, there's no way to stand under it. Note: if you're planning to fit a bimini under the boom, be sure to measure the boom height while sailing close hauled.
I believe I ordered the bimini through West Marine after getting all the specifics from the TaylorMade website. If you go through the fit guide there's a link to iboats.com for online ordering - might be a better price, I don't know.
