We got a chance to take a behind the scenes tour of Palomar Observatory yesterday with my alumni group. If you are interested in a few photos of the 200 inch Hale telescope, click below. It is about a 30 minute drive from my house. We are the closest alumni family. Our guide has a daughter in our high school (Amy knew them).

Oh yeah, it was Heidi's 16th birthday.

way cool

When I lived in Puerto Rico in the mid 70's I visited the Areceibo radio telescope. They were radar mapping the surface of Mars that day, looking for a landing spot for one of our first mars landers. They could map features less than a mile across on Mars.

When I lived in Puerto Rico I was into caving (spelunking) and am the first american to be a member of the Puerto Rican caving society.

As cool as the facility was, I bet your daughter and a friend having fun was just as important. Our daughter lives a few hundred miles away. Close enough to visit but I sure miss those younger days. Cherish them!
