In preparation for a San Juans cruise, I just ordered the standard size tri-lens from the San Diego marine store that Dave Elliot set up the deal with. $180 including shipping is a great deal on this deflector. Thanks Dave!
So, where have people mounted these units on their masts? How high up and has it worked out OK with the genoa, etc. I have a 135 furler foresail.
Also, did you use bolts or snap rivets for the installation?
Thanks!
We cannot direct the winds but we can adjust our sails.
Randy, I mounted mine about six feet up from the spreaders on my tall rig. The owner of Tri-Lens indicated this was a good position, and higher isn't necessarily better. I used long 1/4" aluminum rivets. Be prepared to have to bend the mount so you can get it perpendicular-ish to the mast surface.
I have only had my 110 up since it was installed, but I didn't experience any problems with it going past the reflector. It's very smooth along it's surface, so it's unlikely to hang up anything.
