My panel is mounted with a RAM mount, I can make quick and easy adjustments to line up with optimal sun angles (note since the photo I have moved the location up to the vertical post on the cat bird seat). I leave it mounted all the time, even when trailering.
I do not hook up to shore power. Between the motor charging and the solar, I always have plenty of battery power. It sets in the slip and charges all week when I am away. I have stayed out for 3-4 days running lights in cabin and anchor light and always have plenty of battery power. I like the quite simple charging of the solar panel.
Looks really nice but my panel is 39" wide (18W). From the picture Wil's panel looks like a smaller 5W?
I was running the batteries for 3 weeks (without recharging) before installing the solar panel. I took a reading of the voltage prior to installation: 12.4V which is 75% according to the chart. 2 days after leaving the panel just laying on the cabin top taped with duct tape I had a full charge! We're really happy with this and are now considering installing a radio.
Randy, Sorry for the late response. I went sailing last night and got the info for you. The panel is a BP Solar Model No. sx10m. It is a 10W panel. It came on the boat when I bought her. The panel just has an aluminum flat plate spanning the panel with a standard ram mount (w/rail mount adapter) attached. This flat aluminum bar is probably the only thing added for the ram mount to work with the panel?
Do a search on the web and you can find all kinds of info on these panels.
