I really don't know what the best course is... but at the minimum it is only fair to discuss it with the group.
My last sailing was a three week summer cruise in '03 now quickly approaching four years ago. Other issues are that I'm not well versed other than what I read about the wing keel. Combine this with having filled my interest with a renewal to RC airplanes continues to take me farther from this community.
The lack of activity hasn't been by choice. Until rains of this past year, the local lake provided no sailing opportunities and health considerations of my wife's mother and gas prices had a deterring effect upon what I love... sailing the Great Lakes.
I'm holding onto the boat as I still wish strongly to cruise the Great Lakes each summer but hauling the boat there each summer has become unreasonable. Also, for many years I had a great foreman who I could entrust my business operations with and go off without concern... he moved away about five years ago and I've never found a like replacement leaving a difficult effort to plan a summer cruise.
And... I'm not sure of retirement. It could be next spring or five years off depending upon business activity. When retired, R&R will be moved to Michigan and not make the road trip any more between there and Texas.
I'm beginning to think the group would be better served by a fresh face who is sailing active. If any one has had the inclination to do the c250 tech column... lets hear from you. The process is relatively painless and in fact quite rewarding for those who enjoy rigging side of sailing.
Arlyn, as one of the newer forum members I have learned a lot by searching the archives and reading your posts.
I am new to the C250 having purchased ours last October. We had a C22 for 6 years prior to that. But I love to work on the boat and would be willing to serve as C250 Tech Editor. I am confident that the many productive forum members here would help me come up with worthwhile content for C250 owners.
So, I throw my hat in the ring. If there are other, more experienced, C250 owners who want the job then I would defer to them.
Consider my hat also "in the ring". I've been a 250 owner for the past year and a half, before that a Neptune 24. I'm very active, 2 or 3 times a week here in Long Beach, Ca., every other week with a 250 owner in Dana Point. PRETTY PENNY has almost all the mods that have been posted since joining the website, except electronics and plumbing. I must confess: I'm an electronic and plumbing idiot, so I would best serve the Forum as a co-editor for routine basics, i.e. sails, rigging, interior, etc. Hope this finds you on the mend from whatever bug bit you.
I am very sorry to hear you are not sailing as much as you would like, and especially concerned to hear about your health problems. Your contributions to the association and this site over the years have been invaluable - I know you have helped me, and many other C250 newbies as we followed in your footsteps learning about the boat. From all of us, thank you.
Please rest up and get well soon. I hope that even as you are a less active C250 sailor, that you will continue to visit the site and contribute when you can.
I think it is great that Randy and Frank have volunteered to take over the tech editor work for the C250s for you, but as I said, I hope we will still hear from you as frequently as you wish.
Randy, Frank, I will get with Frank Hopper and the other officers, and we will get back to you about the tech editor position. Thanks very much for volunteering to help, we sure need it.
Kevin, I would be happy to be the editor, share the spot or defer to Frank - out of my deep respect for those who are much, much older than me.
If I don't get this spot I'll look for other opportunties to help.
But think of the possibilities. I love to shop for boat stuff. Frank loves to do things with frugality. I could do an article on a boat mod for $200 and Frank could write about how to do it for $1.75. Great fun!
Yeah, and I do swap meets pretty good. Needed two blocks and ss shackles for my new self-tacking mod. Got 'em at a local (Sunset Beach) swap-aroo for five bucks each; retail at WM: over a hundred for both. My best deal yet, non-nautical, was a chandeleer for our gazeebo I found at Lowes: retail $135.00, clearance sale $8.69. No, you read that right EIGHT dollars and 69 cents, only one left. My wife's Scottish ancestry is rubbing off on me!
Randy, has filled the job of 250 Tech Editor. We owe Arlyn our gratitude for all that he has done for the Association.
Frank, thank you very much for you board participation and desire to help, I know you will be a valuable contributor and asset to Randy. I hope you will consider running for office this fall.

You can say that again! Many thanks Arlyn.
Congratulations Randy, you have some big shoes to fill. I'm sure you will do a great job.
Congrats to Randy and a big Thank you goes out to Arlyn for all the knowledge and hard work provided. Good to know that Frank is there to keep Randy in line. LOL.
