Eatons Neck Is at the top of the map , though its cut off and is the box at the bottom ,

This was a little cove at the point of the harbor .
it gets real busy . You need two anchors to stay out of the channel .
that's a coast Gard school I think . its in the cove

this is in the cove

Stocked up and ready for nothing but fun-in

Burgers on the grill and swimming for lunch

Its a narrow channel

fun trip , When we got back home this guy was driving around the harbor he restores military stuff he did this boat and I heard hes done a tank and other big stuff

Sean,

Thanks for posting the photos of Huntington Bay and Oyster Bay. 1980-1985 I had a new 1980 ODay 23 and use to sail out of Huntington Harbor. I was at a small marina on the east side and north of the in the harbor. Kept my boat on a buoy. I remember first day I bought the boat, they launched it in Port Jefferson and I sailed it down to Huntington Harbor in the evening hours. Oftentimes would anchor off the sand spit on the west side of the bay. Everyone would anchor and then use dinghys to the beach. I remember cleaning off the bottom while anchored there - get those little shrimps off the boat. Then there would be 1000s of them on me and I would have to jump off the boat a few times to get them off.

Great area to sail !

Sean -- excellent pictures. I am across the sound and know that area well -- for those out of the area you captured Huntington/Eaton Neck well.

Sean,

I cannot remember Coco in Huntington Harbor but then again...none of the restaurants come to mind. What I can tell you is that I remember the Big H Shopping Center located south of the village. I used to live in Elwood which is just south and a bit west of the village near Jericho Tpke. Before having my own house, I used to rent an apartment on a chicken farm off of Cuba Hill Rd. Maybe it is still there - It was called the Mackinajian Farm. Lot's of interesting stories having lived there for 1 1/2 years as first tenant of the apartment they built off the chicken coop steaming/inspection room. Every 2-3 months, I would run out of hot water because they forgot to lubricate/oil the water pump. The when I would have friends visit, this one duck would chase them around there car. But the absolutely unforgettable time was when I was finishing painting the bottom of my Luger 16 sailboat which was in the adjoining fenced area where a few ducks and one sheep would sometimes meander around in. Did I say sheep ? Well...it turns out it was a Ram ! (No real horns on this beast.) I found out the hard way ! Won't get into the human vs Ram butting that then took place before I ran for safety on top of my boat.

I remember one very small restaurant I went to in East Northport down by the docks. Found a bottle cap in my clam chowder. When I mentioned it to the staff, they only acknowledged that they were wondering where that bottle cap wound up ! (But no free chowder offered.) Though, the Chowder was great !

Larry
