My reefing line runs up thru a block at the leech cringle, down to a block at the aft of the boom, forward along the port sidc of the boom to a block at the gooseneck, up to a block at the cringle, down to a block at the base of the mast, then back to the starboard clutch. My main is loose footed, secured by lazy jacks when I reef. Also, should I slip and/or fall going forward it's easy to grab the boom; not possible if not loose. I'll add more pics.
