The association has had a lot of turnover in the past 8 to 12 months so I thought I would throw this reminder out there for the regulars and maybe enlighten a few of the newbies.
As many of you know, we have a number of revenue generating items on the forum pages and on our links page as well as throughout some of the other pages on our website. Roughly these links generate between 500 and 1000 dollars in revenue each year. The annual dues vs running the site, mainsheet subscriptions and other various expenses is about break even give or take a little so we use this income to offset expenses such as some of the cruising trips, off season boat show get togethers and some regatta expenses.
There are 4 or five different revenue generating things. 1 - Google targeted ads to the left which look at the page content and assign ads to the page. 2. The google Search - Also to the left which give preferred advertising links to searches you perform. 3. Ebay links in the menu 4. Amazon Link to the left and the Amazon Store in the menu. 5. Links on our links page.
Of the 5, we (the association) get paid for two actions. First someone clicks a link (all but google) and purchases something. The other way is by simply clicking on the google advertisement. (by the way sitting at your computer for an hour and clicking the snot out of the google ads will not benefit us, they have something built in to keep that from occuring.) We then receive a percent of the sale, usually betwen 2 and 5% and have other incentives based on volume or type of link used. For example the amazon storefront pays a little better than the amazon link located on the links page.
So - do you shop online at any of the following? REI, Amazon, Ebay, West marine, Boaters World, etc? If so, please stop here first and click on the link to take you there. It doesn't cost you anything more, but you will help the association.

And yes, I know some of the links are broken, I'll be working with Kevin and or Paul to get those fixed before my tenure with the association as an officer is over.

Duane - Not to make you crazy, and I apologize in advance - but I never understood that if I accessed Amazon or West Marine or any of the others through the links page, the Association received consideration. Moving forward, I certainly will. I expect many members are equally uninformed.
