The wife and I sailed up from Oceanside, CA to Dana Point this weekend for an overnighter. We had a guest slip and spent Saturday night, sailing back on Sunday. Climbed up the hill for drinks at Cannon's and dinner at the Chart House. Panoramic views from atop the bluff. The winds were light (5-10 knots) and it was a bit hazy but a great way to spend a Mother's Day weekend. I'm terrible when it comes to pictures but here's a few I grabbed on the return trip.

Were experiencing "Red Tide" here in Southern California. So much for fishing.

Just saw your photo trip to Oceanside. I have drove past Dolly Parton many time but never heard her name mention but can understand why. Anyway, how long did it take from DP to Oceanside? I am in Newport and one day want to make it to DP. BTW, I agree DP is one of the Best, next to Newport! Let me know if you are ever up in my neck of the woods. Happy Sailing and thanks again for the pics. Steve
Steve, It is 21 nautical miles from Oceanside up to Dana Point. There is about a 3/4 knot southerly current to deal with so it usually takes a bit longer to go north then south. About 4 hours up and 3-1/2 back. When Jim Baumgart and I did the Newport/Ensenada race last year we spent the night in Dana Point and motored up to Newport Beach the next morning. I believe it took about two hours to motor up and about 4 hours to sail back (no wind). I have never actually entered the harbor at Newport but it is on my wish list for future cruises. I'll yell if we head that way.
