Is this boat different from other 25's?

The models might be worth more than the boat.

I don't follow. Why did Catalina differentiate a phrf from other c-25's?

This is the same boat as many of us have. We could all have PHRF boat, if we were racing them! All you need do is apply, pay the fee and you have a PHRF(sorta like a handicap). I dont race mine so dont need it. Itis a sweet deal though!

Very interesting, how one of our boats can go for $ 2063.- with a 9.9 hp four stroke engine. WOW.

I question how the guy came upon the boat - he is selling it for charity and hasn't a clue what a jib is!!!

Most people aren't donating things that can be sold!

I question your question... Of course they do--often when a person or estate doesn't want to mess with selling something (think of your own widow). Many charities accept and then sell things--cars, boats, furniture... without knowing much about them. A number of boats have shown up on e-Bay just that way, "donation, as-is, where is, buyer beware, come look if you can, please don't play games with us..." If you look at the feedback on the seller, he apparently sells cars on eBay--some for charities--and does a good job.

As far as someone selling stuff they don't know much about, I agree with Duane, it happens all the time.

An uncle of ours died some years ago and left his estate to me & my siblings. We spent about two weeks sorting through his stuff setting aside what we thought the family would want to keep, destroying stuff we thought he wouldn't want non-family to have (tax records, etc.)and setting aside stuff nobody was particularly interested in or didn't want to ship cross country (he was in TN, we're all on the west coast). After we'd finished sorting, we hired a local company to auction off the rest. What we wanted, my brothers packed into a Uhaul and drove back cross country with. What we didn't want went to auction, pretty simple. A lot of the stuff ended up in sealed boxes that they auctioned for $25 each. Not only did the buyer not know what they were getting, the auctioneer didn't know what he was selling!

Should we email the buyer and mention that, if he's going to keep it, he should make a point of joining this association?

The parts alone made this a great deal.
