To my surprise I found out last night that the J24 Nationals are being contested here from 4-17 - 4-21. There are 37 boats entered at $325 each form all over the USA and Canada. I now must figure a way to get out of some "honey do's" an go watch a few races.
Frog and The General C250, Pretty Penny II, #743 FLEET 25 Coronado 15, M-Cube, #3316
This J24 talk is fightin' words around these here parts mister..... . Just kidding, maybe. I would have expected more than 37 entries, but it will be good event none the less. There were 69 entries for the worlds in March. One thing is for certian, the J24's definitely have great sponsorship.
As it gets closer I bet that number starts to climb. We had over 100 boats for the 2002 J-24 North Americans. Anything under 60 would be a very light turnout.
Today is the last race day and as of this AM still 37 boats. Went out yesterday to watch, the weather stunk, rain, 15-25 winds and the river was very rough. They first race did not start until 1130, an hour late, but they went at it still.
Hey Frog, now that you have admitted that your area can sponsor big regattas, when can we expect your bid to host a C-25 nationals? If your going to intice us with your racing knowlege, please invite us to race in your home waters!!!!
Who said anything about racing knowledge? I just figured you racing guys would be interested. Now if I had five large just laying around I could join the North Florida Yacht Club and then we could more than likely accomplish that task. I don't know what annual dues are, but that is the initiation fee.
Actually I've been meaning to mention this to you all hear in N.E. FLA. Amity Anchorage is now Amity Marina, LLC. Capt. Bill and Barbara have sold the place and the new owners have taken their old house and turned it into a club again and opened up the swimming pool. But the only facilities are the restrooms. There is only dock space at the end and no ramp or crane and no pump-out. I'll take some pics and bring it up at our next fleet meeting. BTW, when is our fleet going to get together again?
