I wonder if this was a C25...anyone know?

NEW YORK - Two men sailing from North Carolina were rescued in rough seas from a damaged sailboat in the Atlantic Ocean, police and Coast Guard officials said.
The 25-foot boat, called Outrageous, was found about three miles southwest of Long Island's Moriches Inlet Friday evening, according to Suffolk County police. The boat had capsized in roughly 10-foot seas, police said.

The two men aboard were aged 72 and 67, and one suffered an arm injury, police said. The sailors told police they had been going from North Carolina to the Bay of Fundy, which lies off Maine and parts of maritime Canada.

The challenging rescue effort began when a commercial boat heard a distress call around 5 p.m. Friday, authorities said. Boats and a helicopter went out to search for the sailboat, and a Coast Guard rescue swimmer was lowered onto it in roughly 25-knot winds, Coast Guard officials said.

The boat was towed to the Coast Guard station on Fire Island, authorities said.

Don't know if it was a C-25 but I hope I have the "cullones" to make a trip like that, in a 25 footer, when I'm in my 70s. Although I hope that I would have the sense by that age to not try it.

My very good friend's son has sailed from Connecticut to Cuba in a 25' wooden Folkboat (singlehanded) and from CT to Haiti in the same boat (with girlfriend). The latter trip started in November 2005--they had ice on the decks and rigging for the first few days. Afterward, he wrote a feature article about Haiti for Wooden Boat Magazine.

He builds and restores wooden boats for a living--interesting guy!

I hope when I'm that age I'm smart enough and have enough sense to check the weather and stay home.

Better to be at home wishing you were at sea than to be at sea wishing you were home.
