hey Tom , Thanks for helping ! Ya I bought one from dr led ,But it had a two contact on the bottom and the pins were off set .(it fit under the cap) They said they would take it back
Then I seen what you were doing . I cant figure out how to get around on ebay so I ordered from australia company . that fit in the socket but the cap didn't fit so i cut the top lights off too . the cap gets close but when you twist it to lock it in-place it pushes the bulb down .With the fresh cut contacts on the top I don't think I should leave it like that . I could tape the cap just siting in-place untwisted but I don't want to lose the cap during the year .
Maybe Ill have to wait for next year I dont see me climbing to the top of the mast anytime soon
The bulb you bought looks identical to the one I bought on Ebay. I cut the leeds on the top and then took a file to bring it almost down to the circuit board on top. Just make sure that all the short leeds are cut down and filed and do not touch each other. Mine just fits under the cap and tightens just fine. I think by filing yours, you should get enough room to fit.
I found some inverted 8mm cones. They are 10x brighter than 5mm leds and send out light in 360 degrees. I am working on a design with 3 red and 3 green on a circuit board that will fit the festoon holder on the Hella nav light. This will be the equivalent of 60 5mm LEDs and probably brighter than we need.

I received my light yesterday and it looks plenty bright. I took it out to the boat this morning and gave it a try in my HellaMarine mast anchor light. Out of the box, it does NOT fit. This is the same bulb sold on the Australian site for $40. It has the yellow marked LED's. They are very bright. On their site it says that some customers file off the top 4 LEDs. Well, for $7.00 I figure I would give it a try.
Clip the leads to the individual LEDS on the top with a pair of snips. Clean up the top by cutting off all metal leads. Make sure each pair of leads do not touch. I then used a file to wear off the sharp points left by the cut leads. It now fits just fine under the Hella clear cap. Some may say that not having the LEDs on the top cut down in visibility by plane. The OGM anchor light has nothing on the top either. Remember, most LED lights including this one, have a polarity. If they don't come on try switching the wiring, preferable before you put up the mast.
Thanks Tom. I braved the cold and pulled out my anchor light bulb. The end is like in my picture, so NOT a festoon. I'm going to order a few cabin lights while I'm at it.

Randy did you order some for the inside of the cabin as well? If so could you supply the part numbers you used? I'm looking for the small lamps above the table and possibly some wall mounted lights (festoons).
Steve, I only got the anchor light, nothing indoors. We have shore power and two batteries so the interior lights are just not an issue for us.
Folks, use a small wire cutter to take off the top LEDs and then file the top down. That is all you need to do. No need to cut anything on the printed circuit board.
Turk, I am about the buy the Hella Marine Anchor Light: http://www.jmsonline.net/ALL-ROUND-ANCHOR-LIGHT.htm Could you confirm that this is the one you have installed the LED lamp with the 1156 base into? If so, that's the fixture I will get, cause I already have the bulb.

What # is it?
You da man! <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
Hello
This is the bulb:
1156 Super Bright White 28 Flux Led Bulb 1141 1073 5007
The 1156 represents the single contact on bottom and two poles on either side across from each other - not staggered.
As for epoxying the top, it really doesn't need it. The leads you are cutting come through the circuit board and are soldered. They are sealed already. <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
Darnit! Was going to order my mast bulb tonight and I see they don't sell it anymore! I got an email back saying this bulb is discontinued. Anyone have another source or suggestions as to a replacement? There is some nice 18 led ones that seem to fit, but I wonder if they will be bright enough.

How about this other Ebay page? I'm always wary of these sites. It's hard to tell where the supplier is located, but at least it's somewhat regulated through the Ebay system.
I made a 90-degree angle inverted cone out of an aluminum sheet (1/32") I happened to have, to fit inside my new Hella anchor light fixture above the bulb. This pushes all the light out to the sides. After all, I don't need to illuminate the star Sirius. The Ebay page shows the broad illumination cone produced.
The 1156 bulb with 32 LED's might fit your fixture, and the page says they are 1-3/4" tall. You can check it out.
I just ordered 2 of these bulbs, for various uses I envision.
I see what you mean by making a cone. They don't say how many lumens it produces and amps it draws? I would just like to compare to the Polar Star 40 LED.
